About the event

The Noble Eightfold Path With Lama Zangmo

Sat 6 April

10am – 3:30pm

The Noble Eightfold Path is the essence of the Middle Way, the path between the extremes of self-indulgence and denial. It contains eight interrelated aspects that make up the 'skilful living' that the Buddha taught is necessary to uproot suffering and its causes, and thus to sever the cycle of conditioned existence.   The Noble Eightfold Path aim at perfecting the three essentials of Buddhist training, namely:

a) ethical conduct,

b) mental discipline and

c) wisdom.

Practically the whole teaching of the Buddha, to which he devoted himself during 45 years, deals in some way or other with this path. He explained it in different ways  to different people, according to the stage of their development and their capacity to understand and follow him. But the essence of those many thousand discourses scattered in the Buddhist scriptures is found in the noble eightfold path.

It should not be thought that the eightfold divisions of the path should be followed and practiced one after the other in numerical order. They are all linked together and each helps the cultivation of the others.

This day can be attended on its own or as a part of the monthly Introduction to Buddhism series. Other dates in this series are:

6 April; 4 May; 13 July; 14 September; and 19 October 2024.

The course will include time for Q&A and meditation.
