Service Description

A Precious Garland by Gampopa succinctly outlines what we need to know at every stage of the path. The text gives precise instructions on what is needed to develop one's understanding, meditation and conduct on the spiritual path. It is suitable for anyone wishing to deepen their understanding of the Buddhist path. On Thursday evenings Lama Zangmo will give a short explanation of some of the verses starting from the beginning, and will then give plenty of time for questions and discussion, and will end the session with a short meditation. This course can be joined any time and attended as a drop-in class, it is not necessary to attend all the classes. Each session will consist of a short explanation followed by time for questions and opportunity to discuss the text in a group together with Lama Zangmo to gain a better understanding of the teachings. There will be the exceptional evening where there is no class due to Lama Zangmo having other commitments, but in that case there will be a meditation session instead. These will be listed below: There will be no teaching and noone leading the meditation on Thursday 13th October, you are welcome to meditate on your own. The teaching on Thursday 20th October will be replaced by a teaching from Ringu Tulku. The last class for 2022 will be held on Thursday 24th November. About Gampopa: Gampopa, also known as Dakpo Rinpoche, is one of the most important figures in the Kagyu Lineage. The foremost disciple of Jetsun Milarepa, he truly consolidated the Kagyu tradition by integrating its' special teachings with those of the other main schools of Buddhism namely the Kadampa teachings prevalent during his time. Gampopa was the founder of the monastic order of the Kagyu School and he founded the Dhaklha Gampo Monastery, where, throughout his life he continued his activities of teaching, meditation, and benefiting beings.
