When escaping from Tibet, Akong Rinpoche almost died of starvation and he made a promise that if he survived, he would do everything in his power to make sure people do not have to suffer from hunger. Rinpoche encouraged his students to set up “Soup Kitchens” throughout Asia, Africa and Europe, offering food to whoever asked, serving them with kindness and respect, expecting nothing in return.
